Who'da thunked it? Having an 8 core CPU is a HUGE improvement for secondlife.

compare the other machine is 4 core with 480 GTX and the standard disclaimer in SL is "you need top end graphics" ( I knew it was false! but we'll get to that ... eventually).

Monster put together my new hardware last night but made me do some myself even though I was too excited (new computer stuff, Mom and the Dads here, Punk sitting beside me - we're lucky the room didn't burst into flames). I got the drives in (2 old 300G SATA drives and a new 1T SATA drive) and the old video card ( no taking parts from the best machine - have to wait till can buy a better video card ). The DVD wouldn't work to install Win. Seems you have to actually get the connectors all the way onto the devices for them to work.
Only 24 G RAM! Slap that stupid box! oh - the new RAM socket is only ensured to connect on one side - Monster had pushed the first in til it clicked like the old style (4 years is OLD) and didn't realize the new connectors don't force both sides. I fixed later once I saw why the thing didn't see it all.
Boot up and ... nothing. Push pull yank (slap Dad for naughty comment).
retry - beeeeeepppppp. Um - get the F'ing wire for the cpu fan out of the cpu fan!
retry - lots of boring nothing happened.
More connector fiddling then 'snick' - something moved.

stupid fan wire slipped into the fins of this great pretty heatsink thing - into the path of the blades.
reboot - reboot - hey you stupid thing reboot! - oh, once it is powered up the reset button is on the back instead of the main power button to stop malicious children from killing a machine as a prank. It won't work, since the people stupid enough to think harm is funny are also persistent and keep looking.

DAMN this looks good. On the computer PUNK is using. With the OLD video card. While I live on my OLD box with the NEWER video card that is kind of clunky animations.
I think Firestorm is not using OpenGL for their graphics - video cards are showing near 0 usage. 8 core cpu with OLD graphics beats 4 core with new graphics. I bet they are using DirectX. Wouldn't surprise me - they take bribes for just about everything else, taking some for graphics platform wouldn't be beyond them.

I will be testing! .... as soon as Punk lets me have my computer. and Mom and the Dads let us have computer time again.

Going to watch Punk get goosebumps the size of her nipples as we toss her into the stream.
